The 1960s was a decade of huge change within the Fashion scene. In the UK, the music scene and the fashion trends were closely linked, the mod culture scene brought in the popular and simple geometric shapes typical of the 1960s. By the mid sixties the a-line shape was the main style for skirts, coats and dresses. Brightly coloured, bold prints were used within fashion sold all over the UK and had a huge influence on fashion throughout Europe and the US.

Twiggy was born in North London in 1949, she became the worlds first supermodel at the age of just 16. She was named 'The face of 66' by the Daily Mail. With her slim build, baby doll eyes and boyish haircut she become a fashion icon and truly captured the spirit of the 'swinging 60s' mod scene. It wasn't long before she appeared on the cover of some of the biggest British fashion magazines including Elle and Vogue.
In 1967 Twiggy ventured to America where she promoted her own clothing line as well as modelling. Twiggy's image became so popular in the USA that she even inspired her very own Barbie doll.

Caroline SMith
Caroline Smith was one of Europe's leading fashion illustrators during the 1960s and 70s. Her bold, originality within her designs and her talent for capturing the fashion scene of the 60s perfectly got her places working for magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Queen and Cosmopolitan. Her fashion illustrations were also used on advertising campains for huge fashion houses at the time, such as Mary Quant.

Dame Mary Quant is a Welsh fashion designer and British fashion icon. She became an iconic figure during the 1960s in the London-based Mod and young fashion movements. Her clothes were made up of simple geometric shapes combined with strong bold colours.
The mid sixties saw Quant at the height of her fame, when she crated the mini-skirt, the bold paintbox makeup of 1966 as well as created the shiny plastic raincoats and the short iconic pinafore dress. She expanded her collection to a range of patterned tights, cosmetics and other fashion accessories as well as popularising the hot pants in the late sixties.
